Welcome from the hosts

On behalf of the Municipality of Haarlemmermeer, Royal Schiphol Group and the Province of North-Holland, we are delighted to welcome you to the Amsterdam Region for the SMART Airports and Regions Europe Conference and Exhibition.

The event will take place in the Municipality of Haarlemmermeer, where Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is located, within the Province of North-Holland (next to the Municipality of Amsterdam).

The Municipality of Haarlemmermeer proudly presents itself internationally as the ‘Amsterdam Airport City’ and is ideally located in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. With 67 business parks and over 700 foreign businesses and numerous international headquarters, it is a thriving hub of global commerce. It takes from the airport just 4 minutes by train to reach the city of Hoofddorp, known for its business parks as well as its beautiful residential area. A bit further out of Hoofddorp, there are opportunities for rural living.

Royal Schiphol Group is the owner and operator of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Rotterdam The Hague Airport and Lelystad Airport, and holds a majority stake in Eindhoven Airport and a 40% stake in Maastricht Aachen Airport. Amsterdam Airport

Schiphol is the mainport, a gateway that connects the Netherlands to the rest of the world. Over the years, Schiphol Airport has become one of the best-connected hub airports in Europe, with 305 direct destinations. Schiphol Airport, recognized as one of Europe’s best-connected airports, holds a prestigious position in the Airports Council International (ACI) Europe’s 2023 connectivity report – ranking #2 for ‘direct connectivity’ and #4 for ‘global hub connectivity’.

The province of North Holland is a highly developed and dynamic region with 3 million inhabitants. It is home to critical gateways such as Schiphol Airport, the Port of Amsterdam, and the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMSX). With initiatives like the Hydrogen Valley and the Agribusiness-focused Greenports, the province is working on innovations for a better tomorrow.

We encourage you to balance your time between the conference’s excellent presentations in the Municipality of Haarlemmermeer and the amazing city of Amsterdam which is just 14 minutes by train away from Amsterdam Airport City. It is the Netherlands’ capital, known for its artistic heritage, elaborate canal system, narrow houses with gabled facades which are legacies of the city’s 17th-century Golden Age.

However you choose to spend your time, please know that we appreciate your visit, your business and your collaboration. Don’t hesitate to introduce yourself as we cross paths at the conference.
